NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Fresh off two event wins against Gardner-Webb Saturday, Davidson swimmer Anna Newman has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

The honor is the first for the freshman from Raleigh.

In the team’s first meet in two months, Newman helped the Wildcat women post a 174-83 team victory. She swam out front in the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.40 and also touched the wall first in the 200 breast in 2:22.78, securing her first college dual wins.

Newman was one of four Wildcat women to win multiple events against Gardner-Webb, joining Shelby Stanley (100 free, 100 fly), Siena Senn (200 free, 500 free) and Julia Goodhead (100 back, 200 back).

She is the second Wildcat women’s team member to earn A-10 honors this year, following Stanley, who was named A-10 Performer of the Week on Oct. 19.

In all, five Wildcats have earned A-10 recognition, also including men Miles Charles (Rookie, Oct. 19), Owen Curry (Performer, Oct. 27) and Ben McClain (Rookie, Nov. 23).
