Baseball Drops Series at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. — The Davidson baseball team built a five-run lead Sunday, thanks in part to another Michael O’Shaughnessy home run, but lost the series finale at Coastal Carolina 12-5.

O’Shaughnessy, a freshman first baseman, homered for the second straight day and the fourth time this spring when he went deep with a two-run shot in the first inning, driving in Ryan Wilson (hit-by-pitch).

The Wildcats (5-6) extended their lead to 5-0 with three runs in the third, starting when Jacob Hinderleider plated Wilson with an RBI-single. Landon Reeves’ sacrifice fly then brought O’Shaughnessy in, and Hinderleider scored on a wild pitch.

But Coastal (7-4) got to starter Jacob Peaden in the third inning and started chipping away at the deficit. The Chanticleers scored in six straight innings, including two runs in the third, three in the fourth, two in the fifth, one each in the sixth and seventh and three in the eighth.

Meanwhile, Coastal relief pitcher Darin Horn (4.1 IP) came on to slow Davidson bats and strike out 10.
