Archery Range Dedicated at Fisher Farm Park

by | May 22, 2023

The Town of Davidson invited the community to the new Fisher Farm Archery Range for a grand opening on Sunday, May 21. Rather than a “ribbon cutting,” the event was a “ribbon shooting.” Several local elected officials were called to the line, given a bow, and asked to shoot at the targets that had a red ribbon strung between them. The Fisher Farm Archery Range (21215 Shearer Road) has been a longtime vision and dream of Davidson resident Sterling Martin who has taught numerous archery programs in the past and served on the Town of Davidson and Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation Advisory Boards for 26 years.

“I am excited and grateful to Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation and Davidson Parks and Recreation for making this ten-year dream of mine come true,” said Sterling Martin. “I have been teaching archery for 50 years and for the past 22 summers have seen between 300 and 600 children each summer in archery classes at the Davidson College Day Camp at the Lake. Many of those local children would get excited about pursuing archery and then not be able to find a safe place to practice. This will be one of the only publicly available archery ranges in the Mecklenburg Park system and a unique amenity for Davidson’s Fisher Farm Park. It will provide a lifetime sport opportunity for all ages and abilities, and I look forward to the many happy years of archery to come.”
