Davidson Housing Coalition’s Holidays for Hope and Housing

by | Dec 3, 2019 | Davidson Housing Coalition, News

Among the greenery of the season, luminaries will light the night on Saturday Dec. 14. Davidson Housing Coalition’s Holidays for Hope & Housing is an annual event that raises money for affordable housing in our community.

Join the Davidson Housing Coalition for a community celebration, Holidays For Hope and Housing. This annual event is a luminaria lighting that supports affordable housing in our community.

Holidays For Hope and Housing began 19 years ago in the McConnell neighborhood as a way to celebrate the holidays, and support our neighbors who are most in need. Over 12,000 Luminarias will transform our village sidewalks into flickering paths of holiday warmth and light on the night of Saturday, December 14. Last year, almost 900 Davidson and Cornelius families participated in this event, helping those who are experiencing housing instability or homelessness.

As the event has grown, so has the need for our work to preserve and create affordable housing options, and to prepare families and individuals for financial stability and homeownership. In the past year, DHC assisted 15 households—earning less than 80% of the Area Median Income—purchase homes, and housed 57 families and individuals through our affordable rental program. Many of us are grateful for a warm place to call home, so your support allows us to open doors to those in need of a home, as well.

Participation is easy— if you live in participating neighborhood, be on the lookout for neighborhood letters, distributed by a neighborhood captain. If you want to contribute online, go to www.davidsonhousing.org/donate and complete the donation form. Thank you for your support! Warm wishes to you this holiday season.

Davidson Housing Coalition is a non-profit that serves the community with the belief that everyone should have access to decent, affordable housing and the resources to achieve economic self-sufficiency. The mission of Davidson Housing Coalition is to work with the larger community to preserve and create affordable housing options, and to prepare families and individuals for financial stability and homeownership. The organization provides homebuyer education, financial literacy counseling, Care3, a job search assistance program for the unemployed and under-employed, HAMMERS, a home emergency repair program that serves the greater Lake Norman area, and Coordinated Entry for those experiencing homelessness in North Mecklenburg County.
