We are pleased to have Bill Maloney share his experiences from the 2010 Chilean Mining Accident. Since beginning a career in the drilling business in 1980, Bill Maloney has gone from a position of rig hand to project engineer to company owner.
Bill and his company, Center Rock, Inc, provided the driving force in the successful rescue of 33 trapped miners in Chile. The 2010 Copiapó mining accident, also known as the “Chilean Mining Accident”, began on August 5, 2010 with a cave-in at the San José copper–gold mine, located in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. Thirty-three men, trapped 2,300 feet underground and 3 miles from the mine’s entrance, were rescued after 69 days.
