Girls on the Run of the Greater Piedmont to Host 5K Event on May 12

by | Apr 29, 2018 | News

Girls on the Run of the Greater Piedmont will host its 5K event on Saturday, May 12 at Lowe’s Corporate Headquarters, 1000 Lowe’s Boulevard, Mooresville.

Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based, positive youth development program that uses fun running games and dynamic discussions to teach life skills to girls in third to eighth grade. During the ten-week program, girls participate in lessons that foster confidence, build peer connections, and encourage community service, while they prepare for an end-of-season celebratory 5K event.

Each session is led by trained volunteer coaches that guide and mentor the girls. The celebratory 5K event gives them a tangible sense of achievement, as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals. Girls on the Run has served over 1.2 million girls since its inception in 1996.

Participation in the 5K event on May 12 is open to the public and all proceeds from the event will benefit Girls on the Run of the Greater Piedmont. The 5K course includes two scenic loops through the Lowe’s campus. Last season’s 5K event brought together 800 people including program participants, their families and friends, and community members. Registration cost is $20 and includes a tech shirt.

Packet pick up will be on site on Saturday, May 12, beginning at 8 a.m. The event will begin at 9 a.m. on May 12 at 1000 Lowe’s Boulevard, Mooresville. Early arrival is suggested. For more information about the event, how to register and volunteer opportunities, visit  the website.
