Lacrosse Scores First and Never Looks Back in Win Over LaSalle

The Davidson Lacrosse senior scholar-athletes were honored before the game.

 

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Leading by only one goal at the halftime break, the Davidson women’s lacrosse team scored 10 second-half goals while holding La Salle scoreless in the fourth quarter on the way to a 16-7 Senior Day victory.

With the win, the ‘Cats improve to 4-4 overall while picking up their first Atlantic 10 victory of the season.

Jenna Skibbe tied a career-best six goal effort against the Explorers while recording her fifth hat trick of the season. The rookie had the second-best shooting percentage of her career placing nine of her 10 shots on goal.

Lauren Garcia also had a career day as she tied a career-high with three goals while landing all four of her shot attempts on target.

Joining Garcia and Skibbe in the scoring frenzy were Josie Lambert (2), Julianne Carey (2), Riley Cochrane (1), Allie Hartnett (1) and Caroline Moran (1). Cochrane also led the team in assists with three while Carey and Moran had one a piece.

Davidson jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with 10:06 to play in the first quarter before the Explorers tallied a pair of goals themselves. The second quarter saw six total goals, three from each squad, as the ‘Cats maintained their advantage into the halftime break.

The Wildcats tacked on 10 additional goals throughout the second half while holding La Salle to only two, including a blank fourth quarter for the Explorers.

Paige Doyle and Kayla Joyce (2-0) split time in net for the Wildcats combining for three saves.
